Board & Train vs. Private Lessons: An Honest Comparison

We offer both programs, we price both fairly, and we make money either way — so here is the steering-free version of the comparison we give families at every evaluation.

What board & train actually buys you

Speed and repetition. In our immersion program your dog trains in multiple short sessions every day, in a controlled environment, with distractions introduced on a deliberate schedule. Behaviors that take months of weekly lessons to build can be installed during a 30–45 day immersion. It's the right call for serious reactivity work, off-leash programs, and busy households that genuinely won't practice daily.

What it doesn't buy you

A finished dog that stays finished on its own. Dogs do what works in each environment, and if the rules at home are different from the rules at the kennel, the home rules win within a month. This is why our programs end with mandatory go-home lessons — we're not training the dog at that point, we're training you.

Where private lessons win

Private lessons build the habit where the problem lives: your hallway, your fence line, your neighborhood loop in Teravista. They cost less, the owner learns more per dollar, and for puppies, separation cases, and mild manners issues they're usually the better tool. The trade-off is pace — progress moves at the speed of your homework.

The deciding factor

Honestly assess your week. If you can train ten focused minutes a day, private lessons will get you there and you'll be a better handler at the end. If you can't — new baby, brutal commute, three kids in sports — board & train is not cheating, it's realistic. The worst outcome is choosing lessons and not doing them.

Cost, plainly

Every dog starts with a free consultation, and we quote both paths honestly. Per behavior installed, immersion is often the better value — but only if you show up for the go-home lessons. That part is not optional, and we'll say so before you commit.
